ex-L.M.S class 8F 2-8-0 (possibly no.48629) lifting a heavy brick
train up the 1 in 129 gradient from Lidlington to Ridgmont.
These trains often needed the assistance of a banking engine
at the rear which worked from the brickyards to the top of
the incline at Ridgmont.

ex-L.M.S class 8F 2-8-0 with a mixed freight passing Lidlington
station. The chimneys of the Marston Valley brickyards can just
be seen in the background. The 'distant' semaphore signal
